This is guaranteed to be an authentic Bates 12” Combination Square, or your money back including return shipping.
The Bates Mfg. Co. was in business for only 23 year (1890-1913). This square has some surface rust, and dust. I have learned not to clean up these vintage tools, because a number of buyers like the patina to be undisturbed.  Every-thing moves freely, all numbers can be read. Some japanning appears to still be present.
