From the foreword: “When ROLLING STONE began, The Rolling Stones were in the middle of dope busts, film offers, management hassles and label plans. Brian Jones was fading, the rest of the group was itchy to tour. In their own way, the Stones has Sixties Fever- washed over in turn with the best and the worst possibilities. In the same atmosphere ROLLING STONE magazine attempted to articulate, to identify, what was happening.  Following the Stones for nearly a decade now, some of ROLLING STONE’S  best stories resulted from the desire for information in the simplest sense- what did they say, what did they do, what do they think, what happened. Some put it all in a a broader context of fans, the music industry, politics, power- all the things the Stones’ music affects and is affected by. Those are the stories that are printed here, from the first interview with Mick Jagger in 1968 to the eve of the 1975 tour. What comes across is a pretty good rendering of who The Rolling Stones are and why they’re still around.”
