Gathered from museums, public archives and private families is the history of the spectacularly scenic region, the local traders, and the notable weaving families.
It is intertwined with information acquired during thousands of interviews with the region’s weavers.
The book illustrates the lineage of the local weaving tradition that has passed from grandmothers to mother, and mothers to daughters (and sometimes sons), that continues to this day…

lso included with this terrific reference manual is a unique “bookmark” to save your place as you journey through all 7+ lbs.
It is a copy of a First Premium ribbon won by Master Weaver Daisy Taugelchee at the Arizona State Fair 1958, awarded by the Indian Arts & Crafts Department, kept nice with a plastic sleeve.
(The weaving is shown in a photo on page 91...in the bottom right hand corner... with Gilbert Maxwell looking at the rug.)
Along with this first place ribbon is a copy of a letter that was written in 1958 by Gil Maxwell of Farmington, NM to “Frank” mentioning the rug that won the ribbon.
The hand written letter goes on to talk about a sizzling tidbit in history about J.B. Moore & his “prize package” wife and their questionable time while running a mission for the Navajos…. This letter also mentions Charlie Newcum (sic), Tom Keams, C. N. Cotton & Lorenzo Hubbell.
Since the letter is enclosed inside the cover of the plastic wrapped book, we snapped a photo of ours that came with our personal copy.  (shine in the photos is a reflection off the protective plastic wrap only as the dust cover is beautiful)
